Budget cuts will not affect core health services, says Dzulkefly

PUTRAJAYA: Any proposed government operating expenditure adjustments will not affect the core services offered by the Health Ministry, says Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

The Health Minister said that any plans to recalibrate the budgets of ministries are still in the proposal stage with discussions underway.

"It is currently just a proposal and ministries are expected to provide feedback.

"What I can assure is that essential healthcare services – including patient treatment, emergency care, all core essential services, as well as the supply of medicines and medical devices – will not face any reduction.

"Reductions, if any, may involve other areas but core services will not be reduced," he said in a press conference here after launching two new workforce health programmes on Thursday (April 30).

Dzulkefly added that the ministry would negotiate to ensure core healthcare services are protected.

This comes after the Finance Ministry confirmed on Wednesday (April 29) that there were plans for a budget recalibration of all ministries but it would only involve non-critical expenditure.
