4WD driver charged with murdering alleged gunman

KLANG: A 49-year-old businessman has been charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with ­murdering a motorcycle pillion rider by using a four-wheel drive vehicle.

R. Ganesalingam is accused of ramming a motorbike, carrying two alleged gunmen, which resulted in the death of one of them, K. Tinesh Kumar, 33.

He allegedly committed the offence near the Taman Seri Kapar junction in Kapar between 9.46am and 9.47am on March 5.

He will face the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years as well as 12 strokes of the cane if found guilty.

Ganesalingam nodded that he understood the charge, which was read to him before magistrate A. Khartiyayini.

No plea was recorded as ­murder cases fall under the purview of the High Court.

No bail was granted and Khartiyayini fixed April 22 for the case to be mentioned.

Following the incident and Ganesalingam’s arrest on March 5, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the motorcyclists had allegedly fired shots at a man in Kampung Perepat, Klang.

The accused then chased the motorcycle along Jalan Keretapi Lama and rammed the vehicle when one of the motorcyclists allegedly pointed an object resembling a pistol at him.
