Mobile phone murder: Man remanded seven days over fatal stabbing in Melaka

MELAKA: A man suspected of stabbing a 25-year-old youth to death in Sungai Udang here has been remanded for seven days from Thursday (March 12).

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the victim was allegedly attacked by his 44-year-old friend in front of his house at about 8.30pm on Wednesday (March 11) following the argument.

He said the victim, however, had failed to return the phone and had given various excuses to the suspect.

“The suspect believed the victim had sold the phone to obtain drugs, which caused him to become enraged.

"A fight then broke out between the two local men before the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a machete,” he said on Thursday (March 11).

The victim was believed to have died after being repeatedly stabbed, sustaining at least three wounds to the left side of his chest.

DCP Dzulkhairi said the suspect then fled to a nearby building and attempted to hide in an unlocked vehicle, but was later apprehended with the assistance of members of the public.

Checks revealed the suspect has several previous records involving criminal and drug-related offences, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
