Lorry driver denies assaulting girlfriend

SEREMBAN: A 27-year-old lorry driver claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here to a charge of assaulting his girlfriend by slamming her head against a car’s steering wheel.

M. Thibanrhaj pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli.

He was charged with deliberately causing injury to the 30-year-old woman at a parking lot in Taman Nusari Bayu.

He allegedly committed the offence at 1.37pm on March 8.

Thibanrhaj was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi then offered the accused bail of RM7,000 pending next mention.

She also asked the court to order the accused to stay away from prosecution witnesses until the case is disposed of.

Thibanrhaj, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lower amount saying he has to provide for his sick mother and grandmother.

Nurul Saqinah then fixed bail at RM3,000 and allowed the other application by the prosecution.

The court set April 15 for next mention.
