KUCHING: A Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader has dismissed allegations that Sarawak's proposed 17 new state seats have been distributed among the coalition's component parties.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the new seats had yet to be delineated by the Election Commission (EC).

"Suddenly here come people saying that 10 of the seats are guaranteed for PBB, three for SUPP (Sarawak United People's Party) and so on.

"I don't think PBB and SUPP have a stake that way, saying this is my seat.

"The seats have not been delineated. I don't even know where the seats will be," he told reporters on Thursday (March 12).

He was responding to a leaked document claiming that PBB would get 10 new seats, SUPP and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) three each and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) one.

The document also proposed the electoral boundaries of the new seats.

However, Abdul Karim said it was up to the EC to determine the new seats.

He said it was not wrong for the GPS component parties to discuss potential areas for the new constituencies, but it was ultimately the EC's responsibility.

"They have to go to the ground and display the redelineation proposal so that the public can give their feedback.

"But the process to delineate the 17 seats has not been done yet," he said.

Last July, the Sarawak Legislative Assembly passed the Dewan Undangan Negeri (Composition of Membership) Bill 2025 to increase its membership from 82 to 99 elected representatives.
