Two suspects of border agency commander’s shooting still being held

ALOR SETAR: Police are still detaining two suspects to assist investigations into the shooting incident involving the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) commander at Bukit Kayu Hitam here.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said a total of 11 individuals were initially detained following the incident.

“They comprise 10 local men and a Thai woman aged between 22 and 60,” he said in a statement on Monday (March 9).

Comm Adzli said nine of the detainees have since been released.

He said of these, seven were released on bond under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code, while two were freed on police bail.

“From the nine individuals released, six were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for drugs,” he said.

He said the remaining two suspects are still being held under remand to facilitate further investigations.

Police are continuing to gather evidence related to the criminal incident and efforts to bring those responsible to justice are ongoing.

On Feb 25, AKPS commander SAC Nasaruddin Nasir was driving an SUV to morning prayers alone when his vehicle was hit by two shots from unidentified assailants on a motorcycle.

Members of the public with information related to the case are urged to contact the police via the MERS 999 hotline or the investigating officer, ASP Rosli Hanafi, at 019-2022210, or report to the nearest police station.
