No protection for AADK personnel in bribery probe, says DG

PETALING JAYA: The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) will not compromise on any misconduct or integrity issues involving its members, says its director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh.

In a statement on Monday (March 2), Ruslin referred to the recent arrest of two AADK personnel in Terengganu by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"The AADK refers to media reports regarding the arrest of two agency employees in Terengganu by the MACC to assist in investigations into allegations of soliciting and accepting bribes in exchange for bringing prohibited items into a rehabilitation centre for residents.

"The AADK stresses that it will not compromise or protect any staff involved in misconduct or integrity breaches that could harm the agency’s reputation and the public service," he said.

He added that AADK would "take appropriate internal action" depending on the outcome of the investigations.

"The AADK will assess and improve the effectiveness of standard operating procedures at its facilities to close any loopholes that could be exploited in the future.

"We are fully committed to eradicating all forms of misconduct and corruption among its workforce.

"The strictest and most decisive action will be taken against anyone proven to be involved in integrity violations, including legal action and possible dismissal if found guilty," he said.

It was reported earlier that a man and a woman were arrested on Sunday (March 1) when they went to the Terengganu MACC headquarters to give their statements.

The male suspect, in his late 40s, was released on bail for health reasons while the woman, in her 30s, was remanded for six days.

Both were said to be civil servants at a drug rehabilitation centre in Kuala Terengganu.

They were detained on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes totalling RM6,000 to smuggle contraband to inmates at the facility.
