House in Nibong Tebal, several vehicles destroyed in early morning blaze


NIBONG TEBAL: A house in Kampung Lima Kongsi here was destroyed in a fire on Monday (March 2) morning.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director John Sagun Francis said the fire caused about 80% damage to the semi-permanent residential structure.

"No casualties were reported," he said in a statement.

He added that the incident also involved five vehicles, including three motorcycles that were totally destroyed.

He said the department received an emergency call at 4.17am and immediately deployed 19 personnel in five fire engines from the Batu Lawan and Sungai Bakap fire stations.

Volunteer firefighters from Valdor were also sent to assist.

John said firefighters created a fire break to prevent the blaze from spreading.

After extinguishing the fire, the team conducted overhaul works and wrapped up the operation at 7.56am, he added.

Checks found that eight people lived in the house and all of them were safe, he said.

The incident site has been handed over to the Fire Investigation Team for further action, including determining the cause and the total losses sustained.
