Crypto extortion probe: Cops waiting for digital forensics report

SHAH ALAM: Investigations into the 12 policemen who allegedly extorted several victims out of cryptocurrency are still being conducted, says the police.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar, at a press conference at the Shah Alam police district headquarters, said they were still awaiting the full digital forensics report.

"We are also awaiting instructions from the police legal advisory department. The investigation papers have been referred to them. Those involved have been relieved of active duties," he said.

Previously 12 policemen were arrested following investigations into the alleged extortion of foreigners.

It is believed that the dozen were arrested after they were allegedly involved in the theft of about RM200,000 in cryptocurrency during a supposed raid in the Kajang area.

The suspects were allegedly told to transfer the funds in order to be released.
