Ministry wraps up CNY price control drive with over 10,000 inspections


PETALING JAYA: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has concluded the 2026 Chinese New Year Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP), which ran for nine days from Feb 13 to 21.

The ministry’s Director-General of Enforcement Datuk Azman Adam said in a statement on Sunday (March 1) that 10,672 inspections were carried out nationwide, resulting in 1,357 cases. Authorities issued compounds totalling RM157,000 and seized goods worth RM40,361.57.

“More than 2,400 officers were mobilised under Ops Pantau 2026 to increase their presence and remind traders to comply with regulations,” he said.

Traders were also required to use pink price tags for controlled items to make them easily identifiable to consumers.

According to the ministry, the programme proceeded smoothly and achieved its objectives.
