Policeman killed in motorcycle-lorry accident

PETALING JAYA: A policeman was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a lorry along Jalan Cheras, from Taman Midah towards Taman Connaught, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, on Friday (Feb 27).

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said police received a report on the incident at about 2.06pm.

“The accident, which occurred at about 1.10pm, involved a motorcycle and a lorry, and is believed to have also involved another vehicle that has yet to be identified,” he said in a statement.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the 34-year-old male victim was attached to the Inspector-General of Police’s Secretariat at Bukit Aman.

“Preliminary investigations found that the victim was travelling straight amid heavy traffic and is believed to have been filtering between two lanes when a vehicle ahead braked suddenly.

“As a result, the victim lost control of the motorcycle, fell and went under a lorry that was travelling in the left lane,” he said.

He added that the victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz.

“The 45-year-old lorry driver was unhurt and has been detained to assist in investigations.

“A urine screening test will be conducted, while an alcohol test found the driver to be negative,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those with information on the incident are urged to contact the Tun H S Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station.
