MACC to probe UKM over Auditor-General’s Report findings next week

KUALA LUMPUR: Graft busters will commence an investigation next week into governance and financial management issues involving Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), following findings highlighted in the Auditor-General’s Report.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it had taken note of the findings, which pointed to irregularities in financial management and governance matters at the public university.

“We will begin a preliminary investigation starting next week to determine whether there were weaknesses in governance or elements of corruption, abuse of power, misappropriation, or violations of laws under the commission’s jurisdiction,” it said in a statement on Friday (Feb 27).

The commission stressed that the investigation would be conducted professionally, independently and in accordance with the law, without prejudice to any party.

"Appropriate action would be taken should there be sufficient evidence of offences under the MACC Act 2009 or other relevant laws.

"We are committed to ensuring that public funds are managed transparently, with integrity and accountability, in the interest of the rakyat and to uphold public confidence in national higher education institutions," it added.
