'Tangkap Azam Baki' rally calls for immediate RCI probe into Azam Baki share issue

PUTRAJAYA: The Himpunan Tangkap Azam Baki rally has called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to be set up to investigate Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki.

The gathering, attended by more than 50 participants dressed in black as a symbol of solidarity and protest, was held here on Friday (Feb 27).

Businessman Albert Tei, who led the rally, said the RCI should be chaired by former Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat instead of the Attorney General, as was the case in the previous special task force.

“We demand that the RCI be established immediately. We do not want to hear any more proposals. No special committees. We are calling on Tun Tengku Maimun to head this commission to investigate Azam Baki,” he said.

Meanwhile, political activist Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, better known as Ratu Naga, said the rally was organised to demand transparency following allegations against Azam that have drawn widespread attention, including international media coverage.

Previously, Bloomberg reported that Azam held 17.7 million shares in Velocity Capital Partner Bhd, based on corporate filings with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), and also alleged collusion involving the MACC’s investigation unit.
