Nine foreigners nabbed for working at Ramadan bazaars in JB without permit

JOHOR BARU: Nine undocumented foreigners working at Ramadan bazaars here have been detained by the Johor Immigration Department.

State Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said they were detained at several bazaars here starting 4pm on Wednesday (Feb 25).

“Those detained were three Indonesian men and six Indonesian women aged 21 to 48 years old.

“They were found selling food at the Ramadan bazaars, and further checks revealed that they do not possess permits to do so nor do they have travel documents,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Mohd Rusdi said they were detained under Ops Jaja, aimed at tackling undocumented foreigners at Ramadan bazaars.

He added that two Form 29 notices were also served to witnesses to facilitate investigations.

The nine suspects have been sent to the Immigration depot in Setia Tropika for investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
