Shooting incident only strengthens our resolve to defend nation's borders, says AKPS

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Kayu Hitam Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) commander Senior Asst Comm Mohd Nasaruddin Mohd Nasir is "safe and in a stable condition" after the attempt on his life.

"AKPS confirms that SAC Nasaruddin remains in high spirits to continue carrying out his responsibilities and trust in safeguarding the nation’s security," AKPS said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 25).

"Bukit Kayu Hitam AKPS has received several threats recently. The incident this morning was an irresponsible act that is viewed seriously and will not be compromised under any circumstances.

"AKPS director-general Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain visited ICQS Bukit Kayu Hitam this morning to assess the situation and obtain detailed information about the incident, and ensure that security levels remain under control.

"He expressed full support to the officers and frontline personnel on duty," it added.

AKPS stressed that the incident, where two men in full-face helmets shot at SAC Nasaruddin's car while he was on his way to perform Subuh prayers this morning, would not deter the agency and its personnel.

"On the contrary, it strengthens the resolve of all officers and members to remain steadfast, courageous and professional in fulfilling their duty to safeguard the country’s borders.

"The AKPS will continue to ensure that every national entry point remains safe, controlled and sovereign, and will never compromise with any threat that seeks to undermine the nation’s security, peace and sovereignty," it said.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the commander escaped unharmed in the attack, which occurred at 5.40am about 1km from the border.

The shots hit the doors of SAC Nasaruddin's vehicle
