Machete-wielding attackers slash man outside commercial building in Penang


GEORGE TOWN: A 33-year-old man was severely injured after being slashed multiple times outside a commercial building here.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said they were informed of the incident at 8am on Wednesday (Feb 25).

"We received a call that a man was slashed outside a commercial building along Jalan Kelawai here.

"Early investigations at the scene of the incident found that the man, a local, was severe injured due to slashes sustained from an attack by a group of men believed to be locals as well.

"The suspects turned up outside the lobby area of the commercial building on motorcycles before slashing the man," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 25).

ACP Rozak said the victim has been sent to the Penang Hospital for treatment.

"The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous harm using a dangerous weapon.

"We are actively tracking the suspects responsible in this case," he said.

He urged members of the public who have information about this case to come forward and contact the investigating officer Muhammad Muhaimin Muthar at (014-3421292).

On Wednesday (Feb 25) morning, a video went viral of a man being attacked outside a commercial building, showing two assailants slashing a man repeatedly while two others waited on motorcycles.

The men dressed in black then fled the scene while the victim lay seated on the ground covered in blood, with slashes visible on his head and arms.
