Floods: 27 schools closed in six Sabah districts

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 27 schools have been closed as floods hit more districts in Sabah on Wednesday (Feb 25).

State Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin said the affected schools are in Beaufort, Tenom and Sipitang, which were recently declared flood disaster zones, as well as Papar, Beluran and Tawau.

He said Beaufort had the highest number with 14 schools affected, followed by Beluran (five), Tenom and Sipitang (three each), and Papar and Tawau (one each).

Some schools, like SK Kemabong in Tenom, were flooded, while others were affected by rising waters in access roads and their surrounding areas.

Raisin said seven other schools could not operate because their buildings were being used as temporary relief centres for evacuees.
