STPM candidates evacuated from flood-hit villages in Paitan


KOTA KINABALU: Flood-affected STPM candidates sitting for Monday’s STPM examination are being transported out of their villages on Sunday (Feb 22).

The Education Department mobilised this assistance after requesting help from the Civil Defence Force in Paitan.

A total of 12 names were submitted, but only nine candidates needed evacuation in preparation for the examination.

Meanwhile, all relief centres in Kota Marudu have closed, and the district’s disaster status was lifted as of noon on Sunday.

In Pitas, the number of flood victims at relief centres has risen slightly to 2,171 people from 1,078 families. In Paitan, the figure has dipped slightly, with 850 people from 268 families remaining in temporary shelters. In Tawau, 245 victims from 55 families are still housed at relief centres.
