KOTA TINGGI: Three women have been arrested over a forged medical certificate (MC) racket.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the case came to light after a medical officer from a private clinic here lodged a police report on Oct 5 over a forged MC linked to the clinic.
"Checks confirmed that the MC was fake," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 19).
Supt Yusof said a team led by the Kota Tinggi commercial crime investigation department chief arrested the three women, aged 22 and 23, at about 3.20pm on Sunday.
"The first suspect purchased the fraudulent certificate and submitted it to her employer," he said.
He said the second suspect acted as an intermediary, who obtained the forged MC from the third suspect.
Police are investigating the case under Sections 420 and 470 of the Penal Code.
Supt Yusof said background checks show that one of the suspects has a previous record involving drugs, while the other two have no criminal records.
He said the arrests will assist investigations into several cases involving forged MCs in the Kota Tinggi district," he said.
The three suspects were brought before the Kota Tinggi Magistrate's Court, which granted a four-day remand until Thursday.
Supt Yusof urged anyone with information on the case to come forward.
