Dr Wee extends best wishes to Muslims as fasting month begins


PETALING JAYA: May the blessed month of Ramadan bring peace and further strengthen the spirit of harmony among Malaysians, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

In a social media post, Dr Wee extended his best wishes to Muslims as they began fasting on Thursday.

“On this occasion, I would like to wish ‘Selamat Menyambut Bulan Ramadan’ to all Muslims in Malaysia,” he said.

“May this blessed month bring peace of mind and strengthen the spirit of harmony among all Malaysians,” he added.

Dr Wee also wished Muslims a smooth and meaningful observance of the holy month, saying: “Selamat menjalani ibadah di bulan Ramadan.”

This year, Chinese New Year fell on Feb 17, with the Muslim fasting month beginning just two days later, on Feb 19.

Many netizens responded to Dr Wee’s video by exchanging festive greetings across communities.

One user, Nazri Ibrahim, thanked him “for being very understanding of Ramadan for Malay Muslims”, while another, Azmi Ahmad, commented: “Dr Wee is the Chinese leader I respect the most.”

Facebook user Saadiah Mohamed wrote: “May we live in peace in Malaysia, a multiracial country.”

Many Muslim users also took the opportunity to wish Dr Wee a Happy Chinese New Year.
