PETALING JAYA: The Johor branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is committed to working closely with the Johor state government to enhance good governance and strengthen the culture of integrity in the state.
Johor MACC director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin @ Hamin said the commitment is in line with the decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who had expressed concern that corruption remains widespread and is no longer seen as an act contrary to religious teachings and moral values.

“Preventive efforts and operational actions in the state will continue to be intensified and carried out progressively, comprehensively and continuously to ensure corruption can be curbed more effectively,” he said after paying a courtesy call on Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi at his official residence in Johor Bahru on Thursday (Feb 19).
Hairuzam said among the matters discussed were current issues related to corruption and ways to strengthen joint commitment between enforcement authorities and the state leadership.
Both parties also touched on various issues concerning integrity and good governance in Johor, including enforcement challenges and the need to enhance comprehensive anti-corruption prevention mechanisms.
Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz urged all state government staff to uphold integrity in carrying out their duties and to refrain from soliciting or accepting any form of gratification that could compromise transparency and the image of the public service.
Also present were Johor MACC deputy director (operations) Hairul Ilham Hamzah and deputy director (prevention) Sheikh Hamadi Sheikh Abdul Hamid.
