Thousands converge for Manjung fireworks fest

IPOH: A fireworks festival held in Kampung Baru Ayer Tawar in Manjung in conjunction with this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations drew more than 5,000 people, creating a vibrant atmosphere and reinforcing community ties.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, who was the guest of honour, said the event on Tuesday evening (Feb 17) not only enlivened the festive season but also strengthened unity and goodwill among Malaysians.

“This fireworks festival reflects the spirit of togetherness among people of various races, ethnicities and religions in our country, who take every opportunity to visit one another and foster closer ties,” he said on Wednesday (Feb 18).

Nga said Malaysia’s cultural diversity and shared celebrations remain among the nation’s greatest strengths, as seen by the crowds of different backgrounds

He said Kampung Baru Ayer Tawar, previously recognised as a champion in a village beautification competition, is increasingly gaining attention as a community hub and a destination for domestic visitors.

“Organising events like this at the Madani recreational park can stimulate local social and economic activities while promoting the unique identity of new villages as part of the country’s heritage,” he said.

Nga expressed appreciation to the organising committee, government agencies, local authorities and residents for working together to ensure the success of the event.

Also present were Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, and Pantai Remis assemblyman Wong May Ing.
