IPOH: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have arrested 11 individuals and crippled a syndicate involved in forging vehicle ownership documents.
Those arrested, which included six civil servants and five civilians, were made after giving their statements at the Perak MACC headquarters on Tuesday (Sept 8) at about 10pm.
The arrests followed intelligence sharing between MACC and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) over the last six months.
The suspects, comprising seven men and four men between their 20s and 40s, would be remanded until Sept 14.
The syndicate is also suspected of bribing officers from an enforcement agency in Perak to alter the ownership status.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the six civil servants colluded with the five civilians, who acted as middlemen, to commit these acts around 2025.
The suspects are believed to have submitted documents containing false material particulars during vehicle ownership transfer transactions involving 16 classic car registration numbers.
Perak MACC director Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi confirmed the arrests when contacted, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act.
He also did not rule out the possibility of further follow-up arrests.
