“This foundation has enabled Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society to live side by side in peace, despite differences in culture and belief,” he said in a statement yesterday.

At a time when public discourse has become increasingly susceptible to emotion and provocation, Anwar said: “We must not allow differing views to fracture relationships or erode the trust that Malaysians have built over the years.

“Instead, such differences should serve as an opportunity to strengthen goodwill, reject prejudice and choose the path of dialogue, consultation and wisdom,” he said.

“May this year bring peace, well-being and prosperity to all Malaysians,” said Anwar.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wished Malaysians a happy Chinese New Year, urging everyone to celebrate their differences with respect and unity as one big family.

“May the new year bring happiness, good health, abundant fortune and success in every endeavour,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said Malaysians must learn to understand, respect and care for one another.

“The new year is not merely a change of the calendar, but an opportunity to renew our commitment and strengthen our relationships.

“In this colourful journey of life, we are reminded that real strength comes not from individual greatness alone, but from the unity we foster together.”

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said Chinese New Year is a special time to remind Malaysians to cherish loved ones and the blessings of family and friends.

He also advised Malaysians returning home to have a smooth and safe journey.

“As we gather for reunions, may this special time remind us to cherish our loved ones and the blessings of family.

“May the Year of the Horse bring you health, prosperity and abundant joy. Happy Chinese New Year, from our family to yours!” Dr Wee added.
