Trailer driver remanded after crash kills three in family

JOHOR BARU: The trailer driver involved in a fatal three-vehicle crash at KM212, Jalan Johor Baru-Seremban, near the Taman Golden Hill intersection in Segamat, has been remanded for four days.

Segamat OCPD Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail when contacted said the remand order against the 28-year-old suspect was issued by magistrate Amalina Johar at the Segamat Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The accident, which occurred yesterday, claimed the lives of three victims – a married couple and the woman’s brother.

The crash happened at around 3.45pm on Thursday when a trailer driven by a local man rammed into the rear of a van carrying the victims.

“The impact caused the van to lose control, veer into the opposite lane, and collide with a lorry,” Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir added.

Two other passengers, who were the van driver’s grandchildren, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Hospital Segamat for treatment. The lorry and trailer drivers were unhurt.

Initial urine screening found the trailer driver positive for methamphetamine.
