Immediate aid channelled to Manjoi flood victims, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Immediate assistance has been channelled to families affected by the floods in Manjoi, Ipoh, says Anwar Ibrahim.

In a Facebook statement, the Prime Minister described the flood situation in the area as deeply worrying, adding that he has been receiving continuous updates since Monday (Feb 16).

"The situation in Manjoi is very concerning. Since yesterday (Feb 16) I have been receiving continuous reports and have channelled immediate aid to families affected by this disaster," he said.

He added that he would continue to closely monitor developments and remain on standby to ensure swift action is taken.

"God willing, I will continue to monitor the situation and remain prepared, while praying that the floods will subside and that the residents of Manjoi can return to their daily routines as soon as possible," he said.

Earlier, media reported 26 people from 10 families were evacuated to Al-Ghufron Mosque in Manjoi after floodwaters submerged their homes in Kampung Manjoi and Kampung Tengku Hussein on Monday night.

According to a spokesman from the Kinta District Civil Defence Force District Operations Control Centre, nine families comprising 22 people were affected in Kampung Manjoi, while one family of four was displaced in Kampung Tengku Hussein.

Flash floods hit several parts of Ipoh yesterday after almost two hours of heavy rain, affecting areas such as the city centre, Tawas, and Kepayang, Manjoi.
