Pregnant woman on motorcycle miscarries after crashing into car


JOHOR BARU: A pregnant woman has miscarried after the motorcycle she was riding crashed into a car here.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred on Jalan Masai Kong Kong at 9.27pm on Saturday (Feb 14).

He said the 26-year-old woman was headed in the same direction as a car driven by a 40-year-old man.

"The car suddenly changed lanes from the right to the left.

"The victim was unable to avoid it and crashed into the rear of the vehicle," he said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 15).

He added that the victim suffered internal injuries and was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail.

"She had to undergo emergency surgery but her baby could not be saved.

"The car driver was unhurt and has been detained," he said.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi said the driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

"Those with information related to the incident are urged to contact the police at 07-386 4222 to assist the investigation," he said.
