Jailed for striking pregnant woman


MELAKA: A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to four months in jail after pleading guilty to striking a pregnant woman in the abdomen with a wooden broom handle.

Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani sentenced Mohamad Ermy Ezwan Mohd Razak at the Ayer Keroh court, ordering the term to take effect from his arrest on Oct 5.

The accused admitted to voluntarily causing hurt to the 36-year-old at a house in Kampung Batu Berendam, Melaka Tengah, at about 7.45pm on Oct 5.

He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any two of these punishments.

According to the statement of the facts, the victim found that a house she had rented to an employee in Kampung Batu Berendam was flooded after a tap was left running, causing the electricity supply to be cut off.

She contacted the employee, known as “Along”, who arrived with the accused.

The accused struck her abdomen with a wooden broom handle, causing bruises.

When the victim’s husband intervened, the accused struck him on the hand.
