Restaurant manager dies after being hit by car while crossing road in Hulu T'ganu


KUALA BERANG: A fast-food restaurant manager died after being struck by a car while crossing the road at KM31 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Bukit Besi, near Ajil Mosque here, on Thursday (Oct 8).

Hulu Terengganu OCPD Supt Sharudin Abdul Wahab said Nor Haizura Mamat Sidek, 45, died at the scene from severe head injuries.

"The accident involved a car travelling from Kuala Terengganu towards Kuala Berang driven by a 24-year-old man, accompanied by a 22-year-old female passenger.

"At approximately 8.15pm, the victim, a pedestrian was believed to be crossing the road from when she was struck by the car.

"She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to the Hospital Hulu Terengganu Forensic Unit for a post-mortem," he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 9).

He added that the driver and passenger were unhurt.

He noted that the road surface was wet from rain at the time of the incident and the location was a two-lane straight stretch in one direction with heavy traffic.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said. – Bernama
