PAS shocked by Hamzah's sacking, hopes PN partner Bersatu sorts out internal rift soon

PETALING JAYA: The expulsion of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin from Bersatu is shocking, says PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

However, he hoped that Bersatu could quell its internal strife as soon as possible.

Earlier on Friday (Feb 13), Bersatu's disciplinary board announced that Hamzah, the deputy president, had been expelled from the party over allegations of sabotage and attempts to oust president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

PAS is a component of opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional, with Bersatu, Gerakan and MIPP.

"This decision by Bersatu comes as a shock to us and PAS hopes that the internal strife in Bersatu can be resolved as soon as possible," Tuan Ibrahim said of the development.

"PAS will soon discuss the Opposition Leader's position with our parliament bureau.

"The machinery of PAS is requested to focus on the party's work to ensure full preparations for the elections, especially the Melaka state election predicted this year.

"Johor and Sarawak will also face state elections next year and PAS hopes all of its machinery is focused on those elections."

Bersatu disciplinary board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan said in a notice that Hamzah's sacking was decided at its meeting on Thursday (Feb 12).

He said the board decided to strip Hamzah of his membership rights in the party under Clause 22.5 of Bersatu's constitution with effect from Friday.

"(The dismissal is) due to Datuk Seri's actions violating Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu constitution," he added.

Radzi said that Hamzah, the Member of Parliament for Larut, may appeal his sacking.
