Hamzah sacked from Bersatu with immediate effect

PETALING JAYA: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has been sacked from Bersatu effective immediately.

Bersatu disciplinary board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan said, in a notice issued Friday (Feb 13), that the matter had been decided during the board meeting on Thursday (Feb 12).

He said the board had decided that Hamzah was dismissed from his membership rights in the party under Clause 22.5 effective from the date the letter was issued (Feb 13).

“(The dismissal is) due to the actions of Datuk Seri violating Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu constitution,” he added.

Mohd Radzi said that Hamzah may submit an appeal to the party’s appeal board for consideration from the date of the notice.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the party’s top leadership has been informed of the termination of Hamzah.

“The Supreme Leadership Council has been informed that the Disciplinary Board has decided that Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has been expelled from the party and stripped of his membership rights under Clause 22.5, effective Feb 13.

“It is due to his actions violating Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu Constitution,” he said in a statement on Friday (Feb 13).

Earlier on Friday, it was reported that Bersatu division leaders were planning a gathering to support Hamzah while demanding the resignation of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The gathering, scheduled for Saturday (Feb 14), allegedly involves 120 out of the party's 202 division leaders nationwide.

This follows Hamzah’s return from Australia after he did not attend a party disciplinary board hearing on Thursday (Feb 12).

Hamzah was accused of sabotaging the party and attempting to oust Muhyiddin during the last general assembly.

A party source claimed that Hamzah is also expected to hold a press conference on Sunday (Feb 15).
