KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 454 cleanliness notices were issued to tenants at public housing and People’s Housing Projects (PPR) in Kuala Lumpur last year, says Hannah Yeoh.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) said this was a decline from 620 notices in 2024 and 840 in 2023.
The notices were for offences related to cleanliness and uncontrolled rubbish disposal, among others.
As of last year, there were also 4,133 recorded complaints of vandalism at public housing and people’s housing projects in the capital, Yeoh noted.
This covered damage to elevator controls, amenities in rental units and playgrounds, and graffiti.
The number also saw a slight decline from 2024, with 4,193 complaints.
"Apart from enforcement, various community development programmes are also carried out to create a sense of belonging when it comes to preserving cleanliness.
"Programmes including community cleaning and Aedes breeding prevention programmes have also been carried out," she said in a parliamentary written reply on Friday (Feb 13).
Yeoh also said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is working closely with non-governmental organisations and the private sector to improve the cleanliness and state of public housing and people’s housing projects.
"DBKL is committed to continuing enforcement alongside community development programmes to improve living conditions overall," she added.
Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Bandar Tun Razak) wanted to know the effectiveness of measures taken to tackle vandalism and cleanliness issues at PPR in Kuala Lumpur.
