Customs seizes goods worth RM169.2mil in Jan 2026

KOTA KINABALU: The Customs Department seized various types of goods, including taxable items, with a total value of RM169.20mil throughout January this year.

Its director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin said the seizures were the result of enforcement operations that successfully foiled 646 cases of smuggling attempts and duty and tax evasion.

"The five main commodities contributing to the seizure value were vehicles amounting to RM65.26mil, cigarettes (RM38.68mil), other commodities (RM31.41mil), liquor (RM25.31mil), drugs (RM7.51mil) and firecrackers and fireworks (RM1.03mil),” she told reporters this after the handover ceremony of four-wheel-drive vehicles contributed by the Sabah state government at the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters here on Friday (Feb 13).

Anis Rizana said that throughout January this year, the department also recorded revenue collection of RM9.97bil compared with the monthly projection of RM9.17bil, an excess of RM800mil or 108.72%.

She said based on current collections as well as carefully planned strategies, the department is optimistic of achieving the annual target of RM80bil set by the Finance Ministry.

She added that last year, the department recorded an outstanding performance in revenue collection totalling RM76.18bil, surpassing the projection set. — Bernama
