Company director loses RM500,000 in bogus land deal

KLUANG: A local man claimed to have lost RM500,000 in a land deal after paying the money as a deposit to rent the land for oil palm cultivation.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 44-year-old company director in October last year had dealt with an individual representing the company that owned the land.

“The victim agreed to lease the land from the company for oil palm planting activities,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Bahrin said the victim deposited RM500,000 as rental for the land,  which he paid in stages from Oct 30, 2025,  to Nov 4, 2025.

However,  he said the victim only realised that the land  was not registered under the company’s name as claimed by the representative whom the victim dealt with.

ACP Bahrin said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.

He reminded the public to be alert and careful,  especially in matters involving financial transactions when dealing with unknown persons.
