Teacher, 54, killed while crossing road in Sibu


SIBU: A 54-year-old teacher was killed after being knocked down by a four-wheel drive vehicle along Jalan Deshon on Wednesday (Feb 11) night.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkifli Suhaili said in the 8pm incident, the victim Rozita Saibi was delivering medication to her 17-year-old daughter, a student at SM Vocational.

“After handing the items to her daughter, she attempted to cross the road to where her husband was waiting on the opposite side. She was in the middle of the dual carriageway but appeared to hesitate while crossing. A four-wheel drive travelling towards Sibujaya then struck her,” he said.

The victim, who was a teacher at SMK Kampung Nangka, died at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
