Two Melaka cops held over RM2,000 ‘drug case’ bribe

MELAKA: Two police officers have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe of about RM2,000 in exchange for not taking action against an individual linked to a drug-related case.

The two suspects, both men in their 30s and 40s, have been remanded for six days to assist with the investigation.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani following an application by the MACC at the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh here on Wednesday (Feb 11).

According to a MACC source, the suspects were detained at about 5pm on Tuesday (Feb 10) when they turned up at the MACC Melaka headquarters in Alai for an identification parade.

“Preliminary investigations show that the suspects are believed to have committed the offence on Jan 5 at the Ayer Keroh Rest and Service Area.

“They are suspected of receiving the bribe in cash,” the source said.

Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
