63 chikungunya cases reported in Jitra housing area


ALOR SETAR: Sixty-three cases of chikungunya have been recorded in Taman Mahsuri Phase 2C near Jitra since Jan 3.

No deaths have been reported so far.

Kedah housing, local government and health committee chairman Mansor Zakaria said the Kubang Pasu district Health office has implemented various control and prevention measures, including community clean-up operations.

He said the efforts involve the Kubang Pasu Municipal Council, the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) and several other agencies, as well as area residents.

"The initiative is an early step to prevent further spread of chikungunya cases in the residential area," he said on Wednesday (Feb 11).

Mansor also urged residents to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings by disposing of waste properly to prevent mosquito breeding.

"Those experiencing symptoms such as fever and joint pain are advised to seek treatment at the nearest health facility promptly to avoid complications," he said.

The Kubang Pasu Health office said in a Facebook post that it is conducting an anti-chikungunya operation until Sunday (Feb 15) following the rise in cases and the higher risk of community transmission in the area. – Bernama
