Durian Tunggal shooting: Cops still waiting on pathology, ballistics reports

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is still awaiting further reports from other agencies regarding the ongoing probe into the Durian Tunggal shooting.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, at a press conference on Tuesday (Feb 10), said that the police were waiting for the reports to proceed with the probe.

When asked if the recent robbery in Melaka that had similar circumstances to the Durian Tunggal Gang had been conducted by remnant members, he said that the matter was still being investigated.

On Monday (Feb 9), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had reportedly said that police were waiting on the pathology report from Hospital Melaka and the ballistics report from the Chemical Department regarding the case.

On Nov 24, Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar reportedly said that three criminals, aged between 24 and 29, were shot dead after one of them attacked a policeman with a machete at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal.

The 4.30am incident left a corporal, in his early 30s, seriously injured in his left arm.

All the suspects, believed to be members of the Durian Tunggal Gang, were detected while on their way to rob premises.

The gang had reportedly been active since early 2024, and is linked to 20 cases in Melaka, and one case each in Negri Sembilan and Selangor, causing losses amounting to RM1.35mil.

Previously, the IGP said that police had received a compact disc (CD) related to the shooting incident by a family member of one of the suspects on Dec 6.

He added that the CD is believed to contain an audio recording of a telephone conversation between one of the suspects and his wife prior to the incident.

Meanwhile, on the police report lodged by the Defence Ministry over the leak of an internal promotion list, he said that several statements have been taken.

“Statements from several individuals have been taken, and the matter is still being probed,” he said.

On another case, regarding the ongoing hunt for members of Captain Praba gang, he said that the police have identified 15 more members still at large.

The gang, led by a suspect dubbed "Captain Praba", is believed to have been active since 2023, with a total membership of 33 individuals.

All suspects, aged between 19 and 44, are believed to be involved in various violent crimes, including murder, armed assault, gang robbery and arson.
