Two killed, four hurt after car crashes into tree before ending up in drain near KK's Signal Hill Park


KOTA KINABALU: Two people were killed while several others sustained injuries in three separate accidents across Sabah.

In the fatal incident, two were killed - one on the scene and another while receiving emergency treatment - while four others were hurt when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road, crashed into a tree before falling into a drain along Signal Hill Park near here.

OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda said in the Sunday (Feb 8) mishap, the vehicle was believed headed from a residential area towards Likas when the driver lost control when driving by a corner.

“Following this accident, two passengers including a child were killed,” he said in a statement.

He said the incident will be investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987, and assured families of the victims that a thorough probe will be conducted.

ACP Kasim called on those with more information on this mishap to contact the Kota Kinabalu police station hotline at 088-529 222 to facilitate investigations.

According to Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, this 10.50pm accident which involved six people, comprised a girl as well as three men and two women, aged 19 and in their 20s.

In the Semporna district, a man and a woman were hurt when the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and crashed into a drain near a petrol station at Bubul Lama, Jln Kabongan.

Following the 9.30pm Sunday accident, passers-by assisted the duo out of the vehicle before taking them to the hospital.

Meanwhile early Monday (Feb 9), two men escaped death when the single-cab vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a road divider in interior Sook.

Firemen received a call about the accident near Mile 27, Sook Nabawan road at around 7.05am.

When responders arrived, they saw that the divider had penetrated the vehicle from the engine hood part up and through the car roof.

“Two victims, men, had been taken to the hospital before we arrived,” said Sook Fire Station chief Faisal Ahmad.

He said they wrapped up their operations on site at around 7.26am after checking there were no other hazardous elements present.
