NIBONG TEBAL: The Education Ministry is concerned about the welfare, health and safety of students, teachers and school staff amid hot and unpredictable weather, particularly in the northern states.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek (pic) said all school administrators have been given the autonomy to make decisions on school activities and operations during hot weather, including allowing students to wear sports attire instead of standard school uniforms.
“We reiterate this every time the country experiences hot weather. We have clear guidelines and advisories from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and the Health Ministry.
“All school administrators are expected to comply with and refer to these guidelines.
“With these guidelines in place, the situation can be managed effectively. There is no issue with allowing sports attire or adjusting school activities during hot weather.”
Fadhlina said this after officiating the Semarak Sejahtera Older Persons Activity Centre (PAW) programme at Jalan Sungai Acheh here yesterday, which was also attended by Social Welfare Department director-general Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan.
The Nibong Tebal MP was responding to queries on the relaxation of school uniform rules and the conduct of school activities during hot weather.
She said the guidelines cover school attire, including flexibility to switch to sportswear, as well as the management of students’ physical activities during extreme weather conditions, Bernama reported.
“School administrators have the leeway to assess conditions and make appropriate decisions to safeguard students and teachers, as long as they adhere to advice from MetMalaysia and the Health Ministry.”
She also urged school authorities to be sensitive to weather changes and take proactive measures to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
