Jobless man nabbed in Muar for trespass, causing hurt and property damage

MUAR: Police have arrested an unemployed man suspected of trespassing into several houses in a residential area here.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police received several reports of trespass, causing hurt and property damage in Taman Pagoh Jaya on Sunday (Feb 8).

"The suspect, a 29-year-old local man who was driving alone from Kuala Lumpur, is believed to have trespassed into several houses in the residential area by climbing over fences, as well as damaging the doorknob of a house.

"He also allegedly assaulted a homeowner, causing minor injuries to his face," he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 9).

He added that the suspect was arrested at the scene at 5pm the same day.

"The suspect was taken to Hospital Muar for treatment as he was believed to be hallucinating.

"He has one prior offence on his record, but tested negative for drugs," he said.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the suspect has been remanded for four days.

"The case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house trespass, which carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine, or both upon conviction.

"He is also being investigated under Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries up to one year's jail or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

"The case is also being investigated under Section 447 for criminal trespass, which provides for a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM3,000, or both upon conviction," he said.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz also said the suspect is facing a probe under Section 427 for property damage, which carries jail of up to five years or a fine, or both if found guilty.

He advised the public to remain vigilant, avoid taking matters into their own hands in suspicious situations, and to immediately contact the police to ensure community safety.
