ACTRESS Sharifah Sakinah says being in a long-distance marriage presents challenges but has ultimately strengthened their relationship, Kosmo! reported.
Sakinah, whose full name is Sharifah Nurul Sakinah Syed Abu Bakar, 37, said she is gradually getting used to being apart from her husband, Cyril Kongo, who works in Bali, Indonesia.
“Yes, there’s pain, but when you’re busy with work, the pain eases a little,” she said.
The actress, who is currently starring in the drama Sujud Terakhir Encik Norman, added that the time they do spend together is especially precious.
“When we meet and an issue comes up, there isn’t even a minute where we want to argue because that’s the only time we have with each other,” she said.
Asked if she would consider moving to Bali to be with her husband, Sakinah said she would prefer not to, as she wants to keep building her career in Malaysia.
“When I work, I need to be 100% focused. If I lived in Bali, I’d go crazy because I wouldn’t be doing anything,” she said.
> A woman has sacrificed her career as a seamstress to care for her younger brother, who has been bedridden since May last year, Harian Metro reported.
Haliza Zakaria, 53, said her brother, Mohd Zepri Azwan Zakaria, 41, was involved in an accident on May 9 last year.
“The motorcycle he was riding collided with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction that was attempting to turn into a junction,” she said at her family home in Kampung Padang Bual, Terengganu.
Following the accident, her brother fell into a coma and was hospitalised for 19 days.
“He sustained head injuries, suffered internal bleeding in the brain and part of his skull had to be removed. He now needs disposable diapers and specialised wound-care equipment,” she said.
Before the incident, her brother worked as a cleaner at a hospital.
“Now, he can no longer care for himself and requires constant, full-time supervision,” she said.
Haliza said she has taken full responsibility for caring for her brother, despite having to learn many aspects of managing a bedridden patient on her own.
