Short circuit blamed for banting house fire that claims life of three-year-old

PETALING JAYA: An electrical short circuit is believed to have caused a fire in a row of houses in Banting, which claimed the life of a three-year-old boy early Friday (Feb 6).

Kuala Langat OCPD Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said police received an emergency call via MERS999 at about 2.50am from a member of the public reporting a fire at a row of rented houses in the area.

“Initial investigations found that the fire originated from one of the houses, which is believed to have suffered an electrical short circuit,” he said in a statement.

He said firefighters from a nearby fire and rescue station brought the blaze under control at about 5am.

Supt Mohd Akmalrizal said further examinations by the Selangor police forensic team discovered the charred body of a child inside the affected house, believed to be the tenant’s son.

“The body was handed over to the police for further action,” he said, adding that investigations into the cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still ongoing.

He also expressed appreciation to the Fire and Rescue Department and all agencies involved in extinguishing the fire and managing the situation.
