A TOTAL of 744 participants under the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme have purchased property in the country, with most buyers coming from China, Taiwan and Singapore, said Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (pic).
The Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister told Parliament that a further 2,637 participants are in the process of acquiring homes, including finalising sale and purchase agreements.
As of Dec 31, 2025, he said, Chinese nationals accounted for the largest share of property buyers under the new phase of the programme with 304 purchases, followed by Taiwan with 91 and Singapore with 63.
“Other nationalities included the United States (41), the United Kingdom (40), Hong Kong (34), Australia (29), Bangladesh (19), South Korea (15), Indonesia (14) and Japan (14),” he said.
Tiong was responding to a question from Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PN-Dungun) on the number of homes sold to foreigners under MM2H between 2023 and 2025, and whether any participants had obtained Malaysian citizenship.
Tiong also clarified that the MM2H programme does not confer citizenship or permanent residency to applicants, and that they were only offered long-term social visit passes with multiple-entry visa facilities, allowing stays of between five and 20 years.
Responding to concerns over heavy participation from China and Taiwan, Tiong said that efforts to broaden its reach would be stepped up.
“The programme is open to applicants worldwide. Don’t politicise this.
“Applicants from Arab countries are also accepted and some have made purchases, although the numbers are not large,” he added.
