IPOH: About 90 cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have been seized at a house in Hutan Melintang, near Teluk Intan, by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.
Its Perak director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the cylinders were found in a store and on a lorry at the premises during an operation at 5.30pm on Wednesday (Feb 4).
"Following a week-long investigation, we believed that the 31-year-old owner of the house was dealing in wholesale or retail of scheduled controlled goods without a valid licence or permit.
"The house owner told us that the LPG was meant to be sold to customers in the surrounding area," he said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 5).
"We found 28 cylinders containing LPG and 11 empty ones in a store next to the house.
"The individual has been detained to facilitate investigations under Rule 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations," he said, adding that the man could face a maximum fine of RM1mil or jail up to three years, or both, if convicted.
Kamalludin said the team also detained another suspect who was trying to unload LPG cylinders from the lorry.
"We found 63 more cylinders with LPG and 91 empty ones on the vehicle.
"The man is believed to have supplied the LPG to the house owner and has been detained as well," he said, adding that the LPG and lorry seized are worth about RM60,000.
"The ministry will not compromise with any parties that deal or run businesses involving controlled goods without a licence," he added.
