PETALING JAYA: A raid on a warehouse used as an unauthorised goods packaging facility in Teluk Panglima Garang, Selangor, has led to the detention of two dozen undocumented migrants.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that the raid was conducted on Wednesday (Feb 4).
The raid led to the arrest of 15 men from China, Myanmar, Bangladesh and India, as well as eight women from Myanmar and one from Cambodia.
"Preliminary checks found that the two Chinese nationals had misused the passes they held, while two Bangladeshi nationals were found to had overstayed," Zakaria said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 5).
"The remaining foreign nationals lacked valid passes or travel documents to remain in the country.
"The warehouse was believed to have been involved in processing and packaging goods from China to be delivered to customers who placed orders through online application platforms.
"To avoid detection by authorities, the activities occurred at a remote location in an oil palm plantation area and displayed no business signage.
"One of the detained Chinese nationals was also believed to have employed foreign nationals without valid travel documents or work visit passes to work in the country.
"The operation has reportedly been ongoing for six months," he said.
He added that those detained were taken to Immigration headquarters in Putrajaya for further investigations.
