Teen pillion rider dies in sewer pit crash

TAMPIN: A 14-year-old boy, who was riding pillion with his older brother, died after falling into a 10m-deep open sewer pit following a road accident here on Monday.

Tampin district OCPD Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the incident occurred at about 10.10pm when the victim and his 17-year-old brother were heading to a friend’s house in Kuala Ina after having dinner.

“The older brother is believed to have lost control of the motorcycle while negotiating a bend and crashed into the sewer pit, which was under construction.

“The impact caused the victim to fall into the pit,” he said in a statement.

The victim was later pulled from the pit by Fire and Rescue Department personnel, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.

The victim was then rushed to the hospital for treatment but died at about 11.30pm.

The older brother sustained light injuries in the crash.

A post-mortem revealed that the boy died of “drowning and basal skull fracture” resulting from the accident.

Amiruddien appealed to eyewitnesses to contact the district station to help in investigations conducted under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
