KLANG: Almost RM1mil worth of foodstuff was seized by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) after inspections in Port Klang on Wednesday (Feb 4).
Port Klang Entry Control Commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, in a statement Wednesday, said that physical inspections were conducted on several containers in West Port, leading to the seizures.
Three consignments were found to had failed legal procedures and requirements.
Around 16,161.28kg of frozen duck from Ireland, 24,958.10kg of frozen pork from Belgium and 3,500kg of coffee beans from Columbia were seized.
The raw meats were found to have been brought into the country without a valid import permit and for non-compliance to the permits. Meanwhile, the coffee beans were found to had been brought in without the required certification.
“The total seizure involved 44,619.38kg of goods, with an estimated total value of RM916,156.02.
“All the goods were seized to prevent the risk of animal disease entry and to ensure food safety, as well as to safeguard public health interests in the country. The case is being investigated under the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728).
“Port Klang AKPS reiterates its continuous commitment to combating the entry of prohibited items and non-compliant goods in order to ensure the safety, well-being, and sovereignty of the nation,” he said.
