Tiger remains at large after killing cow


JOHOR BARU: A tiger believed to have mauled a cow in Felda Penggeli Timur has yet to be captured, despite efforts by the Johor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the big cat has so far managed to evade the traps set by Perhilitan.

“The authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the tiger may have already returned deeper into the forest,” he said yesterday.

It was reported last month that villagers of Felda Penggeli Timur were alarmed after a cow was found partially eaten. It was believed to have been attacked by a tiger, as large paw prints were found at the scene.

The plantation management reported the incident to Perhilitan, which set up a baited trap and conducted patrols in the area in search of the tiger.

Ling said the search operation will continue as a precautionary measure.

“The aim is to make sure the tiger has returned to its natural habitat, away from human settlements,” he added.
