KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police have begun initial preparations to ensure that the 16th Johor state election runs smoothly, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said the preparations, including personnel assignments, security and logistics aspects as well as inter-agency coordination, were important to ensure all security-related plans are arranged in detail and that all operational needs are identified early on.

"What's important, voters can carry out their duties comfortably and confidently to ensure the preservation of a healthy democratic environment.

"Insya-Allah, with careful planning and cooperation of all parties, the Johor state election can be run smoothly, peacefully and in harmony for the people of Johor," he said in a Facebook post Saturday (Juyne 6) after visiting the Batu Pahat district police headquarters for a briefing on the security forces level of readiness and preparations for the Johor state election.

The Election Commission announced that a special meeting for the Johor state election will be held on June 12, following the dissolution of the Johor state assembly on June 1 after the Johor Regent, Tunku Mahkota Ismail gave his consent. - Bernama
